LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – A 3-year-old girl whose skull was fractured by a line drive during batting practice at Dodger Stadium was scheduled for surgery on Tuesday. The accident that caused the surgery occurred Monday when Dodgers catcher Russell Martin hit a line drive in the stands near third base. ENCINITAS, CALIFORNIA – A bus rider called the Sheriff’s Department Tuesday when he thought the driver was under the influence of alcohol. Deputies stopped the bus, route 309 from Oceanside to Encinitas, at around 4:30 p.m. The bus was heading east on Encinitas Boulevard near Calle Magdalena at the time. According to the Sheriff’s Department, the deputies determined the driver showed signs of being under the influence of alcohol. They subsequently conducted field sobriety tests. SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA – The Medical Examiner’s Office has identified a man who was killed last Saturday in an off-road crash in Borrego Springs. The man was 45-year-old Patrick Dean Perkins of Bonsall. Perkins had gone to the off-roading area with friends and was driving a sandrail-type dune buggy.
The accident occurred around 4:20 p.m. Perkins rounded a corner too quickly and the vehicle turned nearly 36 degrees and landed on his side. According to the Medical Examiner’s Office, Perkins’ passenger was able to get out but he was trapped under the roll bar and died at the scene.
